I’m still a couple of days behind, but I’m going to try and catch up before the end of the week. The 8th feature is linked to the previous feature, The Omega Man, by its Best Boy, Warren E. Boes. I’m not going to lie, Boes is the link, but I picked this particular feature because I saw Paul Newman’s name.
The Young Philadelphians follows Anthony Judson Lawrence from Princeton to law school to the Korean War and back again. I was hesitant of the 2 hours and 16 minute runtime, but I didn’t feel a lag anywhere in the script.
Newman is only one of the things I loved about this movie. Others included 1950s melodrama, Barbara Rush, Brian Keith, Adam West, dated controversy, and a brief appearance by Richard Deacon pre Mel Cooley days.
The next film, Lonely Are The Brave is from three years later and shares its Script Supervisor, Richard Michaels, with Philadelphians.
